Zen and the Art of Recording
Enjoyment of the audience, and activity of artists, their guests and venue staff always takes precedence over recording efforts.
  • Recording permitted on a space-available basis - best chance is being in the queue when doors open.
  • Always ask permission before recording any soundcheck, or offstage.
  • Recording is a privilege, not a right!
Equipment
One recording device, one stand or tripod and one pair of microphones per person.
Mixing Board Access by invitation only.
Mics on stands and cameras on tripods:
  • maximum 6 feet (1.8m) in height and 2 feet (0.6m) in width.
  • may not be placed between any part of the stage and the mixing and lighting consoles.
Video & Still Photography
  • ambient light only - no flash, flood or spot lamps without express permission of the artist(s).
Exceptions
Guest performances by Nik with other artists will be governed by that artist's policy. The policies of festivals, events or venues featuring multiple acts may overrule Nik's customary recording policy (this document).
Trading
Recording must be for personal use only, which may include trading. You may trade these recordings freely - even trades only - no profit of money or goods. Postage costs and blank media may be included. All performances are the exclusive property of the artist(s). All rights are reserved; no waiver of any copyright or trademark is intended. All participants acknowledge and respect the copyrights and exclusive ownership of the music and performances by the performers, writers and publishers. The media by which trading is publicised may not be commercialised. No forum facilitating trading may accept advertising, offer links for compensation, exploit databases compiled from their traffic, or derive any commercial proceeds in any form. A statement of compliance with this policy must be clearly posted on all trading forums. Broadcast of unreleased recordings is permissible if conforming to all guidelines applicable to trading.
Coda
This statement and the policies outlined herein are not intended to and do not create any contractual or other legal rights or obligations in or on behalf of any party. If you are aware of any person or forum violating this policy, please . Much of the wording for this document derives from several recording-friendly sources on the web - we especially recognise the Grateful Dead and Phish, as well as the Etree.org trading forum. We trust you will appreciate its spirit and abide by its intent. A copy is available for download. Happy hunting and foraging...
